Elements of Art for Homeschoolers

July 30, 2020      Leave a Comment

The Elements of Art for Homeschoolers With the pandemic turning many parents into inadvertent homeschoolers, The Inpired Mrs L asked me to give some guidance on adding creativity and art to the homeschool curriculum.  Education just isn’t complete without the added elements of art.  My mother was an artist so growing up she always encouraged our creativity and I learned early on the psychological and intellectual benefits of creativity.  Art is one of those subjects that is ...

Grandma’s Peach Cobbler

July 17, 2020      2 Comments

My grandmother was a quiet woman. She was a thinker, a quiet observer. She was a strong believer at heart and enjoyed having fun with us grandkids. I remember her teaching me how "not to make pancakes" (no measuring involved), and how to pick carrots from their small garden. This peach cobbler recipe somehow made it to me years after she had passed. I don't have any memory of eating it with her in fact. Yet, somehow this recipe snuck up on me like a ninja...silent until one day it hit me! I ...

20 Sensational Summer Desserts

July 17, 2020      3 Comments

I love dessert. That's no surprise to you, I'm sure. I think I love summer desserts the best! Why? Flavor! Temperature! Fun! I love desserts with fresh fruit favors, and in the summer fruit is at its absolute best! Summer is a great time to break out all of those cold desserts. I feel as we get into the "holiday season" of fall and winter, our desserts get a little ...

fierce, free, and full of fire: what i need

July 15, 2020      4 Comments

A few months ago, I had the opportunity to participate in the launch team for Jen Hatmaker’s new book, “Fierce, Free and Full of Fire.” This post is the first in a series of posts related to what I took away from reading this book. All quotes are from Jen Hatmaker, unless otherwise noted. It's been a while since I published the first post in this series. There are several reasons for this, the least being that we are in month five of quarantine and life is, well, a different kind of crazy. ...

Exploring and Learning with Paint: Meaningful Art Activities for Your Kids

July 13, 2020      17 Comments

We've been at home with our kids for quite some time now and maybe if you're like me, you feel like you're running out of things to do. I know we've recently had the television on more than I like, and the hotter it gets the less time we want to spend outdoors. Being indoors more means I've had to get creative. I've found ways to engage in more meaningful art activities with things we have here at home. Art is a simple, fun activity that kids absolutely love! One simple tool that we've been ...

Rethinking Toys

July 7, 2020      16 Comments

One of the best things we've done recently as parents has been getting rid of all the toys! Seriously, we packed all of the toys away in a box and left our soon-to-be three-year-old with a bunch of measly blocks. It was like Christmas! What? Wait a minute! Hold the phone! Stephanie, what in the world are you talking about?  I am talking about a decision that has changed the environment in our home for the better. One that has enriched our daughter’s play time and has cured a ...

She’s feeding her lovey like she sees me feeding She’s feeding her lovey like she sees me feeding her sister. One of the unexpected joys of our breastfeeding journey. For those who don’t know, I wasn’t able to breastfeed E. There were ties and latch issues and eventually it started to feel like I was trying to force her to do something she didn’t want to do. (I now know this girl can’t be forced to do anything!) I pumped like a mad woman and supplied her with enough liquid gold for six months. This time around E is not only learning about the beauty of the natural process, she’s watching me learn too. #breastfeedingjourney #girlmomlife

I look forward to each new stage of being their mom, and I’m so blessed that God trusted me with these two. ❤️
